A math love song ! :-)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UTby_e4-Rhg

Listen to the song first! Then enjoy the lyrics :)

The path of love is never smooth
But mine's continuous for you
You're the upper bound in the chains of my heart
You're my Axiom of Choice, you know it's true

But lately our relation's not so well-defined
And I just can't function without you
I'll prove my proposition and I'm sure you'll find
We're a finite simple group of order two

I'm losing my identity
I'm getting tensor every day
And without loss of generality
I will assume that you feel the same way

Since every time I see you, you just quotient out
The faithful image that I map into
But when we're one-to-one you'll see what I'm about
'Cause we're a finite simple group of order two

Our equivalence was stable,
A principal love bundle sitting deep inside
But then you drove a wedge between our two-forms
Now everything is so complexified

When we first met, we simply connected
My heart was open but too dense
Our system was already directed
To have a finite limit, in some sense

I'm living in the kernel of a rank-one map
From my domain, its image looks so blue,
'Cause all I see are zeroes, it's a cruel trap
But we're a finite simple group of order two

I'm not the smoothest operator in my class,
But we're a mirror pair, me and you,
So let's apply forgetful functors to the past
And be a finite simple group, a finite simple group,
Let's be a finite simple group of order two
(Oughter: "Why not three?")

I've proved my proposition now, as you can see,
So let's both be associative and free
And by corollary, this shows you and I to be
Purely inseparable. Q. E. D.

Life's Little Instruction Book

Yet another fwd mail, but I simply loved this one.

Life's Little Instruction Book:

Have a firm handshake.

Look people in the eye.

Sing in the shower.

Own a great stereo system.

If in a fight, hit first and hit hard.

Keep secrets.

Never give up on anybody. Miracles happen everyday.

Always accept an outstretched hand.

Be brave. Even if you're not, pretend to be. No one can tell the difference.

Whistle. Avoid sarcastic remarks.

Choose your life's mate carefully. From this one decision will come 90 per cent of all your happiness or misery.

Make it a habit to do nice things for people who will never find out.

Lend only those books you never care to see again.

Never deprive someone of hope; it might be all that they have.

When playing games with children, let them win.

Give people a second chance, but not a third.

Be romantic.

Become the most positive and enthusiastic person you know.

Loosen up. Relax. Except for rare life-and-death matters, nothing is as important as it first seems.

Don't allow the phone to interrupt important moments. It's there for your convenience, not the caller's.

Be a good loser. Be a good winner.

Think twice before burdening a friend with a secret.

When someone hugs you, let them be the first to let go.

Be modest. A lot was accomplished before you were born.

Keep it simple.

Beware of the person who has nothing to lose.

Don't burn bridges. You'll be surprised how many times you have to cross the same river.

Live your life so that your epitaph could read, No Regrets

Be bold and courageous. When you look back on life, you'll regret the things you didn't do more than the one's you did.

Never waste an opportunity to tell someone you love them.

Remember no one makes it alone. Have a grateful heart and be quick to acknowledge those who helped you.

Take charge of your attitude. Don't let someone else choose it for you.

Visit friends and relatives when they are in hospital; you need only stay a few minutes.

Begin each day with some of your favor Apr 27

Send a lot of Valentine cards. Sign them, 'Someone who thinks you're terrific.'

Answer the phone with enthusiasm and energy in your voice.

Keep a note pad and pencil on your bed-side table. Million-dollar ideas sometimes strike at 3 a.m.

Show respect for everyone who works for a living, regardless of how trivial their job.

Send your loved ones flowers. Think of a reason later.

Make someone's day by paying the toll for the person in the car behind you.

Become someone's hero. Marry only for love.

Count your blessings. Compliment the meal when you're a guest in someone's home.

Wave at the children on a school bus.

Remember that 80 per cent of the success in any job is based on your ability to deal with people.

Don't expect life to be fair. Keep Smiling :-)

Engineer vs mathematician

An engineer and a mathematician are sitting in a lounge. Suddenly, the coffee machine catches on fire. The mathematician grabs a bucket and leaps towards the sink, fills the bucket with water and puts out the fire. The second day, the same two sit in the same lounge. Again, the coffee machine catches on fire. This time, the engineer stands up, gets a bucket, hands the bucket to the mathematician, thus reducing the problem to a previously solved one.

Bobby Mc Ferrin

The context in which I came across this video is a bit technical( or 'researchy' if that sounds more classy), but its amazing nevertheless. Have you ever wondered if humans can produce two different tones at the same time ? Birds routinely do this, but in real life, I dont remember noticing anyone doing this for a significant amount of time. ( You can try doing it actually to get a feel of how difficult it is). It turns out that humans inherently have the physical mechanism to produce two tones, just that we have not trained our muscles enough. Some trained vocalists can actually do this !! Check out this video by Bobby Mc Ferrin

If you are not able to notice it, you can import the file into matlab and view the abrupt jumps in the spectrogram :-)

Wish I could find a er.. 'driver' to activate this incompatible-by-default hardware !! Multi tone-la mokka podalam :-)

Adiye Kolluthey !!

I have been so smitten by this song and literally lost count of how many times I have listened to this in the past 2 days.

I think its one of the best songs in recent times. Rarely in Tamil cinema do we find good Tamil lyrics set to Western tunes ( the last good song I can recollect is yakkai thiri I guess ). The last stanza is especially superb:

"Enakkaghavey vandhai en nizhal polavey nindrai
Unnai thottru nee ennai vendraye !"

Amazing lyrics, superb picturisation ( esp Sameera with her no-nonsense gal character :-) ), Krish, Benny dayal, Shruthi Hassan == Boy, I love this song ! :-)

Adiye Kolluthey azhagho alluthey
